DO YOU FEEL CALLED TOWARDS THIS POLARITY WORK BUT AREN'T SURE WHERE TO START?
I WAS TOO. 

Years ago, I felt confused about what a relationship that was 'good' but not 'great' was missing. It wasn't for lack of love or connection, but there was no 'oomph' in it (I know you know what I mean!) 

At that time, I was hustling hard (this was before I knew much about energetics in business, of course, so I thought I HAD to hustle.) I didn't have the words for it then, but I was deep in my masculine energy. I felt burnt out, closed off, and outside of my own body much of the time. I couldn't really drop into my own skin or my pleasure, for that matter. 

I remember wishing that my partner at the time would "just step up" and "take the lead"... but when he didn't (or I couldn't wait 5 minutes to leave space for him to) I would jump and do it. I'd plan the date. I'd initiate the conversation. I'd 'make it work' for us. Again, I didn't have the words for it then, but as I held the masculine energy more often, even though I felt burnt out and absent from my own body, he held the feminine pole more often. I often felt myself craving that he would come forward with pursing energy, and intiate more in his own life, in our relationship, and in the bedroom. 

This is when I learned about feminine and masculine energy, through social media posts. 

I'll never forget the feeling... the nudge was so strong and yet so quiet... a gentle pulse in my mind. A little part of me knew this would be the key.

And while I had ZERO clue what was considered feminine or masculine, I knew I felt the pull to find out. I followed a ton of different experts on social media. I invested in joining classes with mentors. I read post after post and book after book, trying to wrap my head around these energies. Deeper and deeper clarity came the more I learned, yet I still felt this confusion around the whole thing. 

There was so much information on polarity work that I was overwhelmed. And unfortunately, I came across a lot of information that was damaging and boxed me in. So many femininity teachers would teach 'feminine energy dating', which was actually just manipulation and game-playing. So many masculinity teachers would promote an unsafe, damaging idea of the masculine, one that promoted dominance at all costs, abandoning any emotionality, and asking men to live up to some 'tough image' of what a man 'should be'.

So, while I could now see that my past partner was mostly in his feminine, with those warped ideas in mind, I swung the pendulum away from dating more of the 'nice guys' and instead ended up with a narcissist. 

His 'big' energy felt so masculine at first - he had direction and came forward with strong pursuing energy. The love bomb exploded. I thought it was love, naturally. It was intense and overwhelming. 

I was quickly shown the truth as the abuse began, but I stayed far too long, because I believed so much of the disempowered teachings. I thought I could 'inspire' him to change with my feminine energy (we cannot control other people - and any teaching that tries to tell you how to get your partner to change is manipulation. Great feminine energy teachers have you focus on YOU and healing YOUR energy. He will either rise and come with you, or fall away.) 

I thought he had good masculine energy, but he "just needed some inner healing." I slipped into the saviour role and self abandonment became my default. I stayed, because I didn't have knowledge of what abuse looked like. I didn't know there was a difference between wounded and empowered masculine - I thought someone was just in their masculine or feminine. I thought I could keep changing myself to make him happy... and then maybe he would treat me better. 
Maybe he would stop the abuse. 

After 2 years, I was in the darkest place of my life. Anxious, depressed, isolated. A shell of the woman I used to be (this is obviously a longer story for another day.) 

When I left, I had two focuses. 
#1 - heal from the inside out. Get to know, and embody my empowered feminine energy for MYSELF, as a gift to me, because it's my authentic core. With or without a partner .

#2 - I wanted to know what EMPOWERED masculine energy looked like. I'd experienced a feminine partner, and a wounded masculine partner... but not yet the empowered, healthy masculine. 

As I continued to invest in my knowledge with healthy feminine and masculine energy teachers, I also took intensive training in Sex, Love & Intimacy work. All of this, combined with my degree in psychology, gave me the clarity I'd been desperately craving. 

Once I had the knowledge to also see my own wounded feminine and guarded wounded masculine parts, I did the work to heal them. It was humbling - and also powerful - to recognise the energies in myself, and make my only goal to be the most empowered feminine partner I could be, regardless of who I was with.
